If you have little ones, a trip to see Father Christmas at Selfridges is a ‘must’. The Christmas Grotto is open from November 21st until Christmas Eve but tickets always sell fast so you need to book (www.selfridges.com). Just around the corner from the hotel is Hyde Park’s annual ‘Winter Wonderland 2009’. Packed with fun things to do from ice skating and taking a ride on the Giant Wheel there is also Zippo’s Christmas Circus. Entry to the event is free but you will need tickets for the attractions (www.hydeparkwinterwonderland2009.com . And for a truly classic English Christmas experience, Westminster Abbey holds a service of readings and carols on Christmas Eve, followed by Midnight Mass (www.westminster-abbey.org/) while St Martin in the Fields in Trafalgar Square hosts regular festive concerts throughout December, with a special candelit carol service on Christmas Eve.
